My Blog Post About Blog Posts, and Why Yours Probably Suck.

Many of you have already seen, or heard of Luis in our webinar series. Well, he’s made another contribution to the community here, in the form of a blog post, about blog posts. Let both of us know what you think by commenting below!

My Blog Post About Blog Posts, and Why Yours Probably Suck.

Here’s a pertinent question.

Why is it that 99.999999% of the population suck at blog posts? Now by the population, I mean the majority of small to mid size business owners, whether it be online or offline owners. Often times they’re non-engaging and their written in a language that most people feel is robotic. What we’re going to talk about today is how to overcome writers block and stop getting distracted, how to improve upon the dreaded writing of topics you know so much about, yet have a problem putting it into words, and how blogging can drastically improve your bottom-line.

“Luis, please tell me.”

Yes, I read your mind. You thought it, I said it.

Now here’s what you need to know. Writing blog posts can be easier than you think. Now, if you’re anything like me, I have ADHD to the max (although I am not medically diagnosed with it lol). With all the possible distractions available, it’s hard to concentrate. Trust me, I know this. Now and days you have so many things on your mind…

Does this look familiar? You’re on a tablet, mobile phone, laptop/desktop; with the TV on in the background, pets barking, children crying, your friends are posting pictures on Facebook, traveling to that cool place somewhere in Zimbabwe, and of course that Facebook video that screams “Watch me, I’m hilarious!”

Right, I know. Terrible. Well here’s the quick solution to overcome the distractions and how to avoid writers block.

The 1st step is to shut off all of your favorite websites.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. “How the hell can I walk away from Facebook for 10 minutes” or “How can I miss my favorite cat video on Youtube?”.

Well, simple.

I use a pretty cool app on Google Chrome (which if you don’t have, please don’t talk to me), and it’s called StayFocsd. StayFocusd increases your productivity by limiting the amount of time that you can spend on time-wasting websites. Normally, I set it between 7am-7pm Monday-Friday and 7am-1pm on Saturday’s, and I try my hardest not to go to my favorite social medias during those time periods.

Now that you have that done, mute your phone and place it across your desk where you can’t reach it easily. And if it helps any, I use a website for distraction free writing (www.ZenPen.Io). And now you’re almost ready to get started.

What should I write about?

Great question.

The first place that I start is to try and brainstorm the most often asked questions in your industry. Your potential clientele are trying to read more about what it is you do and how you can BENEFIT THEM. Now, here’s the kicker. Most often, people don’t really care about the methods in which you do your craft, but more so the results.

So most people reading this are Internet marketers. And before I start going off on a tangent, I need to say this…

Look here… The reason people pay you isn’t to build backlinks. I’m SORRY. But it’s the truth. The reason people pay you is to create opportunity in their business and more so, in their life. So think about that for just a second. If I’m reading someone’s blog, and I’m in the market for SEO, I don’t really care how you do it. What I’m looking for is:

1) Competency

2) Consistency

3) Clear Communication

That’s it.

But hey, if you’re anything like me, I still have writers block even with that fact in mind! So!!! Here we go.

One of the ways I’ve been able to generate new content for my blog and distribute it is by simply looking at what my top competitors in the INDUSTRY are writing about. The smart ones are consistently dumping resources into content and there are hundreds of thousands of things going on all the time….

Think about it… From Google updating their algorithms, to explaining new trends, to talking about Responsive Websites, etc. You get the point. Not everyone looks up “SEO (city)”. So be a little creative. If you were brand new to the game again and you wanted to find out more about the industry, what would you search?

Or maybe you don’t have to think about it. BOOOOOM, open up your Keyword Planner tool that Google provides, and now we’re in the money. Here’s a video below that’ll show you how to better use the Keyword Planner in your favor.

So you get it.

By consistently writing fresh new content that your readers can not only educate themselves more about our industry, but also learn about the things that matter, you create instant superstar status. And when they’re ready to buy? Well…. Let’s just say you’ll be laughing all the way to the bank.

How does this affect my bottom-line?

Ultimately, by implementing a blog on your website (REGARDLESS OF WHAT INDUSTRY YOU’RE IN), it will give you a few benefits.

1) Your Website will get some love from Google (if you use proper titles and H tags, refer here for more information)

2) You’ll create a stream of new customers from people who likely won’t shop price because not only have you built trust through brand recognition, but authority in what it is you do.

3) You’ll have a kick ass, solidified brand.

And there you have it. Get to blogging, and don’t make any excuses.
