Income Report: How Much Does an Inactive Blog Make in a Month?

It’s been a little over a year and a half since I’ve done a monthly income report. At one point, I decided to stop doing them because it didn’t seem to be very beneficial. The traffic that income reports brought, wasn’t profitable traffic and didn’t really help me get closer to any specific goal.

Subscribers that subscribed just because they’re income report junkies, didn’t really have good on page metrics. Most would only check out income report content and nothing else. Entirely different niche than what most of my content is about.

Despite that, I still think it’s something I might do from time to time. This one specifically, I thought it would be interesting to see what revenue the blog brought in even though it was pretty much inactive for 9-10 months.

What’s Been Going on With Income Bully?

I’m not going to rehash everything, since I had an update post a few weeks back that has all that info.

Long story short – Exited some businesses, bought a new house, family member died, found out I’m having a baby, started a new agency.

So been pretty busy, stressed, mixed emotions and all that jazz.

Another Coaching Push

One thing I mentioned in my update was my desire to expand coaching.

It’s something I want to do as much as possible, but unfortunately time is limited. Every time I email out a promotion for the 12 month program, I usually get a few new people interested and at least one buyer that is a good fit for it.

The problem is, I’m eventually going to run out of time to be able to do this. For now, I’m okay but I would like to come up with a group program, instead of 1 on 1.

Removed the Income Reports Menu Item

Since it’s not something I care to push that much, why have it take up valuable real estate? I decided to replace it with a “Work With Me” page.

It’s actually insane I haven’t done it earlier especially since the page I had, hasn’t been updated for a couple years. People can still search income reports since they’re all tagged / categorized.

It makes more sense to me to make this pretty small change and maybe make traffic more profitable than it already is.

The work with me page acts as a gateway for different ways I work with people on here. At the risk of sounding impersonal, it seems like having that page allows me to have more profit per visitor since the income report tab essentially provided no revenue at all.

I added different offerings there like:

  • Hourly Coaching
  • 12 Month Agency Program
  • SEO Audits
  • Digital Marketing / Consulting / etc.
  • And of course my guides (Agency blueprint and Ice Cold Email Gold)

These are the different things I’ve done for readers over the years. I’ve never really promoted actual services other than coaching, but every now and then I actually do get a few audits and random websites / SEO projects that I think would be fun.

Income and Traffic Stuff

When I last did an income report, my unique visitors was 2,400. This was a year and a half ago and admittedly, I was much more active with the blog back then than I am now.

It surprised me to see that I was sitting at 2,300 uniques without new content, and without regular emails.

1,600 unique visitors came from organic search, which has been converting at about 1% into email subscribers.

That explains why traffic has been steady with no activity. Also, when someone subscribes they go through a funnel / autoresponder sequence which has done a really good job at indoctrinating people and sending them to some of my best content over the years.

But, as we know Google is a fickle woman that can change things up at any point and that traffic can disappear. Even if it doesn’t, it would only be a matter of time until traffic decays without new content.

Anyway, time to get to the income stuff.

This blog makes income from:

  • Affiliate products
  • Courses
  • Coaching
  • Sometimes consulting / digital marketing services
  • SEO audits

Course / Product Income

I have 2 main products that I’ve been selling for the last 4-5 years. The Ultimate Agency Blueprint and Ice Cold Email Gold.

Both are probably in need of some update love, and is something I’m working on now but they still bring in steady sales.

Back in my last Income Report, both brought in $158 each.

In October, the Agency Blueprint brought in $111 and Ice Cold Email Gold brought in $185. Crazy that they both have that kind of staying power, although this is such a small amount compared to when I first launched both of these guides.

Affiliate Products

Honestly was surprised when I dug up some of the old logins I had. Some affiliate programs don’t pay out unless you request the payout. I had around $1,000 in Long Tail Pro, and a decent chunk of change in a few others but none had commissions that happened in October so I don’t want to mix that in here.

Here’s what I was able to find for October. Maybe there’s more, but it’s been so long since I’ve done income reports, I don’t know what all I need to check!

NameHero – $50
Thrive Leads – $33.50
Profit Renegade – $45.06 (This has been steady for over a year!)
Social Pilot – $9
Teamwork Project Management – $48

Total Affiliate income – $185.56

Coaching Income

I do a 12 month agency coaching program as well as hourly coaching. This is where the majority of revenue comes from.

I ran a discount for 3 spots in October and all 3 spots were filled.

12 Month Coaching Program brought in $4,191.

Hourly coaching only had 1 call at $325.

Audits / Consulting / other income

No SEO audits in October. There is a $5,000/mo consulting deal that was still happening in October but I don’t think I want to include that as part of this.

I did get an $800 payment that I’m including in “OTHER” income for now. This was something a reader proposed since he was having trouble with cold email and asked for me to help get him set up.

Total Income from the Blog in October – $5,797.56

Insane right?

Granted, $4,191 wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t send out an email about the 12 month agency program. An additional $800 wouldn’t have happened either since the conversation got started after the email I sent out and evolved into that.

So I think it’s reasonable to suggest that on a regular inactive month, my income from the blog would have been around $800-900.

With more dedication, I could probably increase the passive income generated in times of neglect, but overall that’s surprisingly good.

The difference between the inactive state and how things can be when I actually put in effort is pretty crazy.

Probably time to get serious about blogging again.
