Thanks for this webinar – excellent info.
You recommend mailchimp for cold emailing. I’m slightly confused how this works. Is it not the case that the receipient needs to be opted in? How can you send cold emails to businesses who have never opted in to receive your emails.
Look forward to your advice.
Thanks
Stephen, it depends on what you want to do. I don’t know if you’re from the USA and if you aren’t, I don’t know your country’s specific laws but as long as you’re can-spam compliant, you’ll be okay over here. Watch the webinar again, this is covered in there, along with how to avoid getting banned and getting your domain blacklisted.
Thanks for the reply 🙂
I will watch the webinar again. I’m from the UK
My main query is how do you send through mailchimp if the recipients have not opted in? Does mailchimp allow you to upload a bunch of emails to their software for sending without the recipoient having opted in?
Thanks
Stephen, you can upload them without sending an opt in notification. So, you don’t have to confirm the opt in. They just go off of your “honesty”. 🙂
Thanks for that buddy – appreciated…..loving your blog and webinars 🙂
Glad you like it Stephen!
I think my IP has been blacklisted. I was banned from mailchimp once and accessed them through a VPN with a new IP, new domain, and new list of only 300 contacts. I didn’t even get to send the 1st campaign and got the compliance email again. If I’m using a VPN then how are they tracing me to keep banning me?
Did you switch domains? Was the list part of the same list you used when banned? Same address, same information?
Yes brand new domain. List was a part of the old list but cleaned. New made IP business name, new PO box address
Mike,
Try it again but make sure you use a different browser and have the cookies cleared. If you were banned before then you need a fresh list otherwise it will fire up some triggers, once you have sent a few emails then start slowly importing your existing list. Another thing, when you send the email how are you linking it? You need to not include the banned domain whatsoever.
No links at all. I’ll register another domain and try internet explorer with a new list.
Make sure your cache and cookies are cleared, there should be no linkage between accounts. If you include a phone number in the emails make sure to use a tracking number. What exactly are you emailing anyway if you aren’t including links?
I’m sending a simple intro email with 5 tips to increase calls. No promotion at all, no links, no phone numbers, nothing.
I just don’t get how they’re tracking me, I will try a public library computer today and see what happens with a new domain. Is it POSSIBLE that they would track a domain all the way back to the hosting account, linking them together? that seems absolutely rediculous but it’s the only thing I can think of so far.
Mike, are you sending the SAME email you sent before or is it different?
Best one yet Nathan, I love coming here, so informative. Will you be at ungagged or any of the major conferences sometime soon?
I’ve considered checking out Inbound but right now no plans.
I have everything setup and running. One thing I don’t think you mentioned – user based role emails and filtering them out. I know you can filter domains like @yahoo, @aol etc in MR but have yet to figure out a solution to filtering out user based roles like abuse@ spam@ admin@ handles.
Mike, you can do that in excel if you’d like but if you use mailchimp they don’t allow role based emails anyway, they automatically filter them.
I just don’t want to be banned from uploading lists containing role based emails. That’s exactly what happened with constant contact. I simply uploaded the files and was put into a manual review suspension, then banned because of it.
You don’t do any filtering to your role based emails? Mailchimp just deletes them on upload?
Mike, that’s correct, Mailchimp is deleting them automatically. However, if you use Mobile Renegade and want to use a different service that may ban you for them, you could always add a filter to remove the role based emails within MR. You could also use Excel, but that could be tedious and time consuming.
Hey Nathan. Totally eye-opening. These webinars are just the ticket for me, someone leaving online niche marketing for these new frontiers. Thanks.
Hi, quick question. In the video, you talked about using a “pseudo” domain and switching to a new one when appropriate. When I first sign up for MailChimp, do I use the “pseudo” domain? Then when I switch domains, do I have to sign up for MailChimp with an email from that domain? I’m confused. At sign-up, MailChimp asks for an email and I don’t know what I should put.
You can put any domain email when you sign up. In order to send from a new domain you need to verify the domain, so it isn’t really an issue. You can always add more domains later on!
Hi Nathan,
I’ve got my system set in place and am building email lists at a pretty decent rate. My list on mailchimp is getting pretty large and It makes me nervous that I have all eggs in one basket. Would you recommend starting another list with a different provider under a new domain etc? I would hate to get banned from mailchimp for some reason with the amount of leads I currently have. I chose to use a verify service to build the list so I have money invested in the list and want to keep it safe.
What provider would you use as a backup to spread out my eggs?
I’m also having trouble with the email series and content to use. Do you typically send non-sales type content with just a line like “if your business is struggling with sales, or you’re looking for something new and need help, give us a call today”
I made the mistake of reading deep into email sales funnels and now it has me a little confused on what I should be sending as far as content.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thank you
Jacob, thank you for the comment. I understand why you would be nervous but if something were to happen you could just take your list somewhere else. If you really want to play it careful, you can start priming up an additional account, but I don’t think you have too much to worry about. The main thing is to always have backups of your list.
As for email content, it depends on what your goal is. Don’t get too caught up in sales content because your list will nurture, and build trust over the long haul which is much more valuable. Soft call to actions with helpful content are always the way to go if the leads were cold.
Thanks for your reply Nathan. I appreciate it.
How do you go about nurturing your list and building trust if you ever have to switch domains? Do you still keep the same name in the “from” field or something?
I’m just wondering if I ever have to switch domains I’m emailing from, how to keep their trust. Any insight on how you handle this?
Thank you,
