One struggle I’ve always had is creating consistent content on a blog, especially on a daily basis. Most of us know the benefits you can receive from blogging, but it’s easier to know about the benefits than it is to reap the rewards, right? It’s easy to recommend other people to start blogging and publishing at least an article a day but it’s much harder to actually do it.
Why Am I Doing This Challenge?
Every piece of content you create is an asset. Not a short term asset, but a long term asset. It’s like when you invest money at a young age, time is on your side and you can benefit from compounding interest. Blogging is the same concept, every blog post you publish can bring in visitors and leads to your website or blog for years to come.
My goal with this challenge is to benefit myself, by forcing myself to a strict blogging schedule and to reap the rewards of additional traffic. I also have a goal to benefit the readers of this blog, with top notch content every single day in the month of May. Another goal is to connect with other bloggers who want to join me in this challenge.
To summarize, here are the goals I want to accomplish:
- Create a steady stream of posts for long term assets to bring in more traffic to this blog
- To share knowledge and help the regular readers of this blog
- To connect with other bloggers, consultants and businesses who are actively blogging
Not bad right? Just 3 overall goals of this challenge.
I think I’ve been posting a lot of content here since I launched this blog back in January, and I don’t think there’s a problem with my current posting schedule. However, I do notice each month a growth in organic traffic with very little SEO that’s been done. Basically, I’m experiencing organic traffic growth, simply because I continue publishing content and optimizing it a tiny bit.
I hope that at the end of this challenge I see an even sharper growth in traffic both in the short and long term.

So what do you say? Are you ready to join me?
How To Get Started
Many of you already have websites for your business, or freelancing operation or blog or whatever it is you’re doing. Some of it is related to marketing or internet marketing and others are in a completely different niche or have their own local business. It’s easier for you guys to start a blog, since you already have a website.
For those of you that don’t, it’s actually pretty easy to get started.
Step 1: Hosting and FREE Domain Name
If you don’t have a website, or blog or if you want to just start a brand spankin new one, then you probably know that you need hosting and you need a domain name.
This is pretty easy, Arvixe, a hosting company I started using for one of my niche affiliate sites I created recently, offers a free domain with any hosting account. You can read my review here. $4/mo if you pay up front, but with ANY hosting company, I recommend going month to month even though you pay a couple more bucks.
Step 2: Install WordPress
While I am not a WordPress fan boy, and love using Joomla for the majority of my sites and client websites, nobody can deny the power of WordPress when it comes to blogging.
Installing wordpress is easy, usually most hosts, even if you decide on Hostgator or Bluehost or another solution out there, offer a 1 click installation through your cPanel. Arvixe Hosting allows you to have WordPress pre-installed when you sign up, so you’re instantly setup!
Step 3: Install a Theme & Publish Content
The 3rd step is simply choosing a theme, free or premium and start publishing content. You don’t need to spend hours on design, it could literally be something you setup and start generating traffic to within minutes.
You can always customize and make modifications later on. I’d recommend one of your first plugins be yoast for SEO purposes which will help you with some of the on page optimization of your blog posts.

Hi,
Would be great to join in but I could be a day or two late starting as we are working on a website redesign on the Rainmaker platform and I don’t want to publish content twice – on the new site and the current site – so will hold off until the new platform goes live in a few days.
Good luck though and I’ll join as soon as we go live – same domain but completely new design.
Dale.
Hey sounds good Dale, let me know when you launch the new site.
I’m in let me know when its a go.
May 1st buddy! 31 days.
I like the idea. I’ve been wanting to write a book so this would be a good way to write a little each day with the idea of using the content several ways, including the book.
Yeah absolutely. With blog content, it doesn’t have to just be used for your blog, it can be repurposed into video, slidershares, ebooks, lead magnets, etc.
Great Morning to you sir & fellow students,
Just bought your course (yesterday) and have great expectations for myself running with it!
Will be fitting this challenge into my rather busy schedule (like no one else has a busy schedule Ha Ha !! )
This will be a total transition while working 65 hours weekly as a truck driver (a very tired one @ 59 years young) but a motivated one. (also have 4 kids under 18 :))
Will be basically starting from scratch so getting up to speed will be slow and steady.
What I like most about your style is your straight talk, knowledge sharing, and personal availability for students that I have NOT seen with other teachers.
My goal is to visit here daily rather than blog (don’t have that set up yet) holding myself to the fire. I have about 5 hours a week to invest here so choosing the best use of my time will be critical.
Anyway, off to 10 hours of trucking, but I’ll be back!!
Paul, thanks for your comment and getting my blueprint! You have quite the daunting task at hand, and you’re right, with limited time available you have to choose the best use of your time, it’s absolutely critical. If there’s any questions you have, feel free to ask along the way.
Day 2………………Woo Hoo !!
Reading Part 3 of book 😀
Mind is jumping ahead, I have a dozen friends who Own their own businesses, How far into book do i need to reach before I can “act in some way” with each of them?
several are Auto Mechanics
one is a specialist tree surgeon
pilot school owner
private jet Salesman ($$ Mega Millions)
dog sitter, groomer
etc etc etc, several dozen other catagories…………. 😀
Back to reading…………….
Paul, make sure to check out some of the SEO posts on the blog, I think that will likely be the service you end up leading in with!
Do you think because the masses seem to really LIKE watching videos, clients would flock to adding online video services?
I did a quick google search in my town for 6 different businesses…………Not One had any video in their search results.
What do you think the CTR would be if there was even just one video thumbnail on page 1 ?
Would you be able to do Lead Gen with a video approach?
Hey Paul… CTR on videos in SERPs aren’t actually that good at all in comparison. However, the real gold they provide is when you include a phone number in the title of a video that’s ranking. People tend to call service related businesses just based on the number, so keep that in mind. One video I did for a tree service, has generated over 300 calls over a year and a half, so it can be a useful tool.
Problem is, Google doesn’t always include them in all the SERPs like they used to. You could certainly sell video creation services though!
Hey there killer! I’m in.. need a bit of motivation with this project.
Found some good info in your suggestion of reading SEO articles, reading in between towing AAA members!!
Staying committed 🙂
Nice… get it done Paul!
Decided to take the real plunge and dust off two of my almost abandoned blog projects. Your challenge has inspired me!!
I have them hosted on TheBlogPress platform and was gonna cancel them. It’s only $15 a month and they have great tech support so with your pushing gentile prodding here i go.
They are pretty bad lol, but are brand new and unpolished but hey, You inspired me to go Live.
I can adjust as I go.
What a Great Feeling to be making progress!!
can we post them in comments or just keep them in the unpublished website block above?
Paul, congratulations! Go ahead and post them in the comments, the system will auto flag them (usually) but I’ll approve it. I’ll also include you in the weekly roundup I’ll be posting on Saturdays.
So these two are my First Live attempts………… LOL
http://www.FunPetFurnitureHQ.com
The goal is to seo rank for pets with long tail keywords for dogs and cats then monetize blog as affiliate for pet furniture, training etc
This second one is to promote the teeter hang up inversion table, thru offer shot. Much more difficult to get affiliate approval. Was denied about 10 months age and decided to now build a blog before re apply. I think with a blog set up I’ll get approved.
http://www.MyLowerBackPainSolution.com
So I am officially LIVE !!!
Congrats Paul! The pet blog is definitely in a tough, competitive niche but could be worth it for you. I’ll be sure to check these out.
Of course these blogs were before I found your Local Leads idea. So now i’m torn which direction to focus. I work 75 (with travel) hours 6 days a week so I’m really spread thin for time.
Yes the pets is competitive (haven’t found anything Not competitive LOL), but i toyed with idea of spending a little on PPC at the lower priced long tail KW s just to get some traffic. Then put up a FB page and cross reference. Also put some ads up there as well. The blog topic came about because earlier mentors pushed to write about things that we knew something about. The long term goal was to offer something in exchange for email….Then do email marketing to those on my list interested.
One sourse of PLR content that i know about is http://master-resale-rights.com/
Ever used them? I was going to buy something around $2 like training or how to care for new kitten topic and give it away as a freebie.
this approach Seems like a long drawn out process. but i hate to just drop it
I’ve never really used PLR content so I can’t say whether it would be a good idea or not. You have the right idea though, easier in theory than it is in reality!
Working with businesses, is much easier than making money online through niche sites, or at least it seems that way to me!
Back to your book, about your suggestion for me …….. Local SEO
When I found you i also found Local Lead Boss.com software, looks pretty interesting, more in line with your approach to calling on Small Businesses. Now i’m only 1/2 way thru your Part 3 but i’m curious if you have an opinion about that software. it’s $49
One of my big hang ups has always been the “need” to know what i’m doing before i sell. Since i don’t know seo YET i can’t sell it Yet, right?
Thanks, appreciate you hands on here.
Paul… I think if you go through the SEO posts on this blog and the webinar, you will learn a lot and be able to efficiently rank businesses, but due to your lack of time available, it will be tough to be able to prospect and get sales. As for the software, I haven’t used it. I really like Mobile Renegade for scraping leads. Check this out: https://incomebully.com/mobile-renegade-awesome-b2b-sales-lead-generator/ That’s what I’ve used for the past 5 or so years.
Surprised at the lack of comments, but guess that is good for me, kinda like a private mentor? haha Have been reading the SEO posts from here and your book. Lots to learn but seems to be taking hold a bit.
I had an Ad popup from http://www.rankingcoach.com Seems like an automated version of what we are trying to learn to do manually for our clients.
Seems like its targeted to the end user, business owner to do for themselves although I think there is a form or partnership available but that’s not clear.
Are they just a software competitor for “us” to deal with?
I’ve actually never heard of “ranking coach”, so I can’t comment on whether that’s something useful or not. LOL, yes @ the lack of comments, it seems like there are a lot of lurkers, but very few commenters.
How do you handle the moral dilemma of having more than one client in the same industry in the same competitive area?
For example as a Tow Truck driver I know all 30 auto mechanics in a 20 mile radius. I can’t help all of them “beat” their competition because I am friends with everyone of them.
;( Interesting problem?
Depends on the service you’re offering. If it’s simply website design, then you can help all of them. If it is SEO you really need to only stick with one per city. I guess one way around it is to offer a “3 month service” and switch between them all every 3 months haha.
Wonderful items from you, man. I’ve have in mind your stuff prior to and you’re just too excellent. I really like what you’ve obtained right here, really like what you’re saying and the way in which you say it. You are making it enjoyable and you still care for to stay it sensible. I can not wait to read much more from you. This is really a wonderful website.|
Thanks Jordan.
